Review: The Last Time I Saw Her - Book #4 Dr. Charlotte Stone Series - Karen Robards - August 2015
At the end of Book #3 we read as Michael "the ghost" got sucked into what was nicknamed Spooksville after firstly haunting and then eventually falling in love with Dr. Charlotte Stone , who is a shrink that works with high risk prisoners -mainly those on death row , who also has the ability to see ghosts. We read as Charlotte mourned the lost of Michael and chided herself on how could she have fallen in love with a ghost, when she knew the risks and the fact he was a spirit. At the start of Book #4 Charlie is visiting Michael's grave, when standing there is a guy who looks like he could be Michael's twin as they look exactly alike and more so he is asking about his case. This gets Charlie wondering whether he could be the Southern Slasher, as she always wondered if Michael was as innocent as he claimed as after getting to know him , he doesn't seem like a killer to her. What happens next when Rick - that's the guy and Charlie are at her office , it gets held up by prisoners and she is taken hostage with others. During this time , Michael can view what's happening and strikes a deal in order to save her one last time. Michael pops back to earth and a happy reunion happens , during this time Charlie undigs the dark truth about the "real" Southern Slasher. I have to say, without giving the story and ending away , I shall leave it here with the fact I love the way Karen Robards finished the series and this book and it reminded me of the Sam/Jim and Melinda storyline on Ghost Whisperer a little bit.
If you love Serial Killer Novels with a Hint of the Supernatural , then Karen Robards' series Dr. Charlotte Stone are the books for you.
Review: These Battered Hands - Laurel Ulren Curtis - September 2015
Firstly, I want to say that I have a cover crush on this book and that's what first drew me to the book, second was that earlier this year I read the author's book Quirks and Kinks and found it a fun read and then last , but not least the book is about gymnastics and I have a thing about reading sports orientated books. These Battered Hands was an amazing read and shows the inner lives of gymnasts, especially those who like the main character Callie are twice Olympian winners and aiming for a third at only 26 is amazing. Growing up , I loved watching The Cutting Edge movies though the films are about Ice Skating, I found them similar in theme and the way the book was written. In These Battered Hands, Callie is given a new coach called Nik who is around her age and a hunk. The pair of them , though they get off to a rocky start - they work wonders together and there is passion and chemistry sizzling and they begin dating in secret as if her father catches him - he would be fired and also blackballed as a coach and her integrity would be compromised as in the rules of sport everyone knows dating the coach is always off limits. Callie has never met anyone like Nik before and at 26 , she is at the stage of needing to feel appreciated and loved and Nik does it for her in more than one way. Can Callie have both - her gymnastics and Nik or will she have to sacrifice one for the other ? With her whole life riding on the Olympics, she gives up Nik but what will happen when tragedy strikes ? Will Nik be waiting by her side or by pushing him away, has she lost him forever ?
These Battered Hands is an awesome read and one that those who have been talented in a specific area, which means that they haven't had the chance to be social will understand as in order to succeed and be the best, often sacrifices have to be made .
A wedding day explosion, a family reunited, and a hunt for a killer are only a few of the things Macyn and her husband, Devon, will face after spending several long months being tortured by their nemesis, Frederick. After Macyn and her partners step up their game and form a plan to find the elusive man, it's then that she is faced with the realization the future of her family and loved ones is dependent upon the decision she makes. Will she continue and follow through with their plans to end this man’s life, knowing the reality of failure is a possibility? Or will she make the ultimate sacrifice and give herself willingly in order to ensure the safety of those she loves? The answer awaits in Macyn’s Decision, the final installment in the Macyn McIntyre Series.
Review: The Affiliate - Book #1 The Ascension Series - K.A Linde - September 2015
Firstly, I was attracted to the book due to the cover as it was amazing. If you love fantasy novels and epic adventures then The Affiliate by K.A Linde is for you. In a way this book reminded me of The Selection series by Kiera Cass as the main character Cyrene is chosen to be a representive on the Queen's council which is one of the most prestigious positions that anyone in her city could dream of . As the story goes along though, things start to get a bit on the rough side as Cyrene discovers that all isn't as it seems and that life this side of the fence isn't all rainbows and sunshine and she is pulled into a world of danger, adventure and if she's not careful then treachery will evolve. Like most epic fantasy novels, the first books are always a little bit slow to start off with as the first book tends to lay the groundwork for the series and introduce us to the different key players and storylines that will evolve as the story progresses through the chapters. In The Affiliate we can see that something will happen between the King Edric and Cyrene as they become close in the book and she finds him one of the few she can trust, but even getting close to the King has her walking on a fine line. Cyrene must decide as the first book comes to a close whether love is worth it and whether it is worth the price of being free otherwise she may be trapped into a nasty cycle she can't escape from for the rest of her existence. If you love epic fantasy tales and books from authors like Trudi Canavan, Cinda Williams Chima and Sarah Maas, then The Ascension Series by K.A Linde is the books for you.
Callie Blood, sweat, hard work, and a disconcerting lack of tears—my entire life—was meant to culminate in a flourish of glory and significance. I'd thought I'd always known exactly what that meant. But I'd had the timing wrong by about three minutes. I knew now. This moment wasn't everything. The one person I found myself wanting more than anything during it was. Nik One preconceived notion can haunt you for the entirety of your life. I thought I owed it to myself and to everyone who'd ever backed me to do what was expected. What was right. What I was supposed to do. But nothing is forbidden in love. Not circumstances or propriety or the denial of the object of said affection. I knew now. This was it. If I wanted it, I had to take it. This gymnastics love story is more than grips, rips, and battered hands.
For Calia Nickleson and Nikolai Bagrov, it was everything.

I closed my eyes,
sealing off myself from the thoughts of my conscience, and waited for the feel
of his lips pressed against mine. I wondered if they would steal the breath
from my lungs like they had when I was fifteen. I wondered if his kiss would
cripple me with lust the way I always imagined. My heart thundered with
anticipation inside my chest even though I knew this moment was wrong.
It is often said that time heals all wounds. The words are spoken like a promise... A vow. These words are said to people who have been beaten down to their lowest state. To the poor souls who have nothing left to lose. Whispered into the ear of a grieving daughter, told with a shrug to a man who has nothing left to live for.
These are dangerous people.
The down-trodden. The grieving. The ones who love more people dead than alive.
The words should never be uttered. Not to the ones who have no solid ground on which to stand upon, no rail in which to clasp. The white-knuckled moments of life have come to be expected rather than feared.
"Time heals all wounds."
The words are an insult. A slap in the face... and around here, they'll get you hurt. For Averi McClain and her husband Colt, there were few deeper insults.
In the wake of Black Horse's death, a war has erupted. The Seventy Devils are scattered and on alert, gnawing at the bit for the go-ahead to strike. They would not hesitate to spill the blood of anyone who stood in their way of recompense. They knew they would need to act fast if they wanted to come out on top. Colt was not the kind of guy that you slept on. He'd stop at nothing to protect his family and he was lethal whether he was heavily armed or going toe to toe, bare knuckled beat-down style. Colt did have Black Horse's blood coursing through his veins, after all. But then, so did Jimmy, and he is ready to show everyone that the apple didn't fall far from the tree... in fact, they appear to have formed on the same poisoned branch.
As leader of the Devils, Jimmy had seventy miscreants to do his bidding - and three goals in which he needed to achieve:
1.Avenge Black Horse
2.Kill Colt McClain and Randy Ford
3.Take Averi for his own
Jimmy has another thing coming if he thinks victory is easily won. Will Colt and Averi's broken road end in tragedy? Or will they be the ones to banish the devils straight to hell? When the demons of the past rise up, can Colt and Randy face them fearless and determined? Whatever happens, don't expect Colt and Randy to stand alone. Buckle up. The broken road makes for one hell of a ride.

Review: The Best Kept Secret - Wendi Nunnery - June 2015
If you enjoy high school novels , then this is the read for you as we meet Emma who is entering in with her best friends to tenth grade. When she recieves news that her best friend Andy just had sex behind the bleachers , at this point her heart breaks in two and makes me think of the reaction that Rosie had when her best friend Alex broke the news in the movie Love, Rosie. It seems that everyone is out having sex and that leaves Emma the virgin still. As the year goes on, secrets become the in-thing and soon Emma feels like she doesn't even know her friends and what is happening in their lives now. Emma is then asked to the school prom by the most popular guy in their school Deegan Burke and when Emma thinks that having this new status will change her life and be that "wow" moment, she will discover that being on top isn't as glamourous as it seems when you are actually in the "crowd". Soon secrets will start unravelling her perfect life she has created and Emma will discover that the people she thought she knew and loved , cared for - she really doesn't know them at all. The Best Kept Secret is a great teen angst novel where you will discover who your "real true" friends are and often the results will surprise you. Like most teen angst novels, The Best Kept Secret will send you on an emotional roller-coaster of a ride.
