Ditched

Review: Ditched - Book #1 Ditched - Amity Hope - April 2013

At first I thought due to the cover that the girl had been ditched from a prom date, but once I got into the book I learnt that it was in fact a Wedding dress she is sitting in. Ditched, though it has all the makings of a New Adult novel, to me this was more of a teen novel. Holly is having the night of her life at her bacherolette party, but of course like most things - all good things have to come to an end, so she gets her best friend Max to drop her off at her fiance Chris's house. Though what Holly walks into wasn't something she ever suspected , her fiance Chris is cheating on her with some girl in cowboy boots. Heartbroken and confused, Holly decides to call the wedding off but her family and Chris's talk her into postponing the wedding instead. Fast forward to the day of the wedding and there in the front row is the girl with the cowboy boots and Holly and the wedding party will be shocked to discover who she is. Holly rushes out and hitches a ride with Max, he is headed to his grandparent's vineyard for the Summer to work before college starts. As the two of them start spending some extra time together, we wonder whether Max's love that he has for Holly will be reciprocated ? Will Holly be able to finally see that her "true love" has been in front of her this whole entire time ? Or will she continue to be clueless and try and set Max up on a few dates with girls around the smalltown ? Ditched is a HEA story that has the ideal of waking up and smelling the roses and seeing what's been in front of you the whole entire time and that something maybe the one thing you need in order to complete your life.

  1. Hi Paula, what was it about the story that made it feel more YA than NA? You mentioned Max was working the summer before going to college, so they're all just out of high school? Seems pretty early to get married. Does their age work for the story? Hmm... still, I'm a sucker for best friend-turned real love story lines. :)

    1. I thought it seemed pretty early to get married too , but the writing style felt more YA than NA as you know how most NA nowadays are quite intense stories, this had the cheating scenario but it was pretty much glossed over and the turning point for the story. Reading the characters too , they felt young to me and more like High School Students than those others Ive read in College Fiction.

  2. Gotcha. Did the author try to market it as NA? Weird. I'm not usually a fan of stories with cheating threads b/c they often end up with a lot of drama. But I love rooting for best friends falling in love. Hope you still got to enjoy the story overall.

    1. Nope the author marketed as a Ditched is a "clean" young adult romance. Im not normally a fan of cheating fiction either but I'm like you with the whole best friends falling in love and the story was a nice one overall . There is also a novella that accompanies the book.
