Review: Formerly Shark Girl - Book #2 Shark Girl Series - Kelly Bingham - May 2013

Have you heard of the Bethany Hamilton story, where the surfer Bethany was in a Shark attack and her arm was bitten off. She then had to re-learn everything with only one arm , and despite her up's and down's she did. That is what Kelly Bingham's series "Shark Girl" is about. In Shark Girl, we meet Jane Arrowhead who was out in the water when her arm was bitten off by a shark and readers followed her story and her rehabilitation. In Book #2 "Formerly, Shark Girl". It is a year on from Jane's attack and she is in her last year of high school , trying to decide what she wants to do for university or college as it's called in America. Since her rehab, Jane has been working at the local hospital as a volunteer and now has the chance to become a nurse. But will they accept someone who only has one good arm and a prosthetic arm that often drives her crazy ? The other thing that was different about Formerly , Shark Girl was the writing style. This wasn't written in the format of a normal chapter book but in poetry verse similar to what the author Ellen Hopkins does in all her books. The other thing that I loved about this book, was that it was such an inspirational tale and makes the readers wonder -if they can do that , then we can do anything that we put our minds too as the bible verse comes to mind as I write this "I can do all things , through Christ who strengthens me "
