Review: Reconstructing Amelia - Kimberly McCreight

Looking for a thrilling read ?
What would you do if your life changed in a matter of seconds and it turned out to be only the beginning ?
Review: Reconstructing Amelia - Kimberly McCreight - April 2013
Have you ever thought about how life can be so fleeting ? How a person can be there one minute and not the next ? Reconstructing Amelia makes us realise this and also be aware that people aren't really what they make themselves out to be and that deep down there is a reason for everything. Kate's life ended the day she received a phone call from her daughter Amelia's school to say she had been suspended. When Kate arrives at the school ,however things are a different tale as there are police, fire engines etc and instead of picking up her suspended daughter , she has been told that her daughter Amelia has just committed suicide via jumping. The news reels Kate into a zombie-like state until she recieves a text "Amelia did not jump" and from then Kate decides to retrace Amelia's steps, delve into the life of her daughter and discover what happened and what led her to be killed. This part of the book if you are reading it and are a parent, will make you think twice about your child participating in any social media EVER as Kate will uncover textes, facebook and tweets and will discover a web of bullying, hate and a life she didn't know her daughter had. Without going too much into the book as it will give away the tale. I will finish by saying that Reconstructing Amelia was a fascinating read and that it is one you won't be able to putdown. The other thing I loved about it is how the author Kimberly used the formats of facebook posts and text messaging and blog posts throughout parts of the book to tell the story- this made it more enjoyable.
