Matched - Ally Condie

The novel that has caused so much controversy as I read reviews on GoodReads , many are wonderful in which I can agree with as I really enjoyed it , others are atrocious with claims that the entire storyline was taken from The Giver by Lois Lowry. I say readers, you decide for yourself. As I really enjoyed this book but in my defence, I must add that I have never actually read The Giver by Lois Lowry, Its been one of those books that Ive been meaning to read for years but just haven't gotten around to it.

                                                            

                                        Review: Matched - Ally Condie - December 2010

Matched by Ally Condie is the book that all fans of the Dystopian worlds must read as I haven't in a while been that into a dystopian teen novel . Matched takes us into the world known as "The Society" where all teenagers on their 17th Birthdays are Matched - this means that their future partners are chosen for them. Matched in "The Society" is like Arranged Marriages to countries like India. For many, they don't know their match until the revealing at the Banquet but for Cassia her match ends up being her best friend Xander. However , when Cassia goes to plug in her Matched micro-card, it's not Xander's face that pops up - it is Ky Markham. Is somebody playing a prank on Cassia or has their been a big mix-up in the Matched system and Cassia found herself with two matches - one right and one wrong. As the story goes on we see the development in Cassia as she finds herself doubting "the Society's" rules. Will Cassia follow the rules and her head and Match with best friend Xander or will their be a part of Cassia that tugs her heartstrings towards Ky ?
Matched is a fantastic read and is one that no matter what others have said. It is one that will have to go on your TBR Piles and left for you to make your mind up about.
